A Feast of Dahlias
New: Trip Report
And two photo albums from the dahlia expositions at
Coutances and Parc Floral, Vincennes.
France, June 2004
Album only
First a page of roses. Pierre de Ronsard
growing as it was meant to do. Then some shots at Jardins artistique du Drulon, a new
garden for me. The gardens
feature a catalog of art by European artists, which makes it fairly unique,
but the gardens stand on their own, being well designed and wonderfully maintainted.
There is also a farily wild area of woods
and swamp, again punctuated by artwork. Last shot on the page is a miracle rose I
found taking a wrong turn in La Châtre.
Second page is iris. A few shots of the iris garden at Orleans la Source, the first
visit at the right time to see the display and it was incredible. Then two shots from Clos du Coudray.
Third page is some odds and ends: rhubarb in baskets at Prieure
Notre Dame d’Orsan; a couple of gardens at the
International Garden Festival, Chaumont sur Loire and a restaurant with
a view.
Last page is a nice color combination at Clos du Coudray.

The
trip was a little late in the year because of a special birthday in the
family so fortunately, I chose some gardens for structure. We had several nights of heavy frost but
there were still plenty of discoveries.
